Hey Friends,
In this manifesto, we explore how to break free from the 9-to-5 mentality and reclaim a life of quality over quantity. In a world driven by productivity, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle—whether in our careers, businesses, or personal lives. For many of us, this mindset isn’t just confined to our work hours; it spills into our homes, relationships, and health. This manifesto is a call to question this constant drive for more and instead, focus on what truly matters: quality, peace, and pleasure.
The 9-to-5 Mentality: A Trap of Productivity
Our society has long been built on the structure of the 9-to-5. It’s ingrained in our education, workplace culture, and expectations. The focus is on output—how much can you get done? Quantity often overshadows quality. I’ve felt this firsthand in my 9-to-5 job, where doing a good job often gets overshadowed by the pressure to produce. It’s a mindset that doesn’t just stay at the office; it tends to follow us home, impacting how we run our lives and even our businesses.
From 9-to-5 to Entrepreneurship: Breaking the Cycle
Many of us carry the habits from our traditional jobs into entrepreneurship. We think that the more content we post, the more successful we’ll be. Social media is a prime example: “Content is king,” they say. But what if that’s a lie? What if success isn’t about churning out endless content but instead about offering something deeply valuable and aligned?
When I started my business, I realized I was still operating from a 9-to-5 mindset. I was focused on the quantity of my posts, the number of groups I was in, and the constant push to do more. But then I stopped. I started to question what success looked like for me and realized I wanted quality—not just in my business, but in my entire life.
Quality Over Quantity in Your Business
Stepping back from social media was a huge shift for me. Instead of posting every day, I began to listen to my intuition. If I felt inspired by a podcast or a random thought, I’d write it down and schedule a post. This wasn’t about increasing the number of posts but about sharing what felt real and aligned. I learned to trust that quality over quantity would still attract the right audience—those who resonate with my message.
I also reassessed my social media groups. I was in dozens, but how many were truly valuable to me? How many were in alignment with my values and the message I wanted to share? As part of my commitment to quality, I left many of them. The groups that remained were those that offered a deeper connection and value.
Simplifying for Quality: A November Commitment
This coming November, I’m focusing on three things: simplicity, belief, and pleasure. These themes perfectly align with the idea of quality over quantity. I want to strip away the excess—both in my business and personal life—and create space for what truly matters. The process of letting go of what doesn’t align can feel scary, but it’s also incredibly freeing.
I encourage you to take a look at your business. Where are you prioritizing quantity over quality? Is it in the frequency of your posts? The amount of content you consume? The groups you’re part of? What would it look like to shift your focus from doing more to doing better?
Quality in Your Personal Life: What Truly Matters
The 9-to-5 mentality doesn’t just affect our work; it infiltrates our homes, relationships, and personal time. It’s easy to think that being a good parent or partner means doing more. More outings, more activities, more of everything. But what if quality mattered more than quantity? What if the true joy came from fewer but deeper experiences?
For me, this meant evaluating my home life. Did I need all those kitchen gadgets? Did I need multiple versions of the same item, or was I holding onto them out of habit? This wasn’t about minimalism for minimalism’s sake but about making space for what felt pleasurable. Every item in my home now had to pass the “pleasure test.” If it didn’t bring joy, peace, or utility, it had to go.
I realized that by choosing quality, I wasn’t just creating a more peaceful home; I was also making room for more pleasure. I could breathe easier, enjoy my space more, and create a sanctuary that felt aligned with my values.
Reclaiming Pleasure in Everyday Moments
We’ve been conditioned to think that pleasure is something we have to earn after being productive. But pleasure is our birthright, and it’s essential for our well-being. Shifting from a mindset of constant productivity to one of receiving and enjoying has been transformative for me. This isn’t about abandoning your responsibilities; it’s about embracing a different way of living.
I’ve moved away from spending time on platforms that didn’t bring joy. Instead, I find small pleasures in things like scrolling through Ikea hacks on Pinterest for a few minutes, getting inspiration for my home. I’m not there to consume endlessly—just to enjoy, get inspired, and move on. This small shift makes a huge difference in how I feel.
The Power of Cyclical Living
Men’s energy tends to follow a 24-hour productivity cycle. But for women, our energy is cyclical. We move through phases, influenced by our natural rhythms, whether tied to our menstrual cycles or simply our intuitive seasons. Yet, we’re often forced into a linear productivity model that doesn’t honor our nature.
This cyclical energy is what inspired the creation of my Pleasure and Peace Manifestos. I wanted to feel different. I was tired of being exhausted, stressed, and overwhelmed. I knew there had to be a better way to live—a way that didn’t involve being “on” all the time. Embracing quality over quantity allowed me to honor my body’s natural rhythms and bring a sense of peace and pleasure back into my life.
Rewiring the Mindset: Quality in Every Aspect
It wasn’t just about shifting my mindset at home or in my business; it was about how I showed up in every aspect of my life. Even at my 9-to-5, I started to question the narrative of constant productivity. Yes, I had responsibilities, but what could I say no to? What could I remove from my plate to allow space for more quality? This practice of discerning what’s necessary has spilled over into every aspect of my life.
When you begin to shift from quantity to quality, you start to see life differently. Your worth isn’t tied to how much you accomplish. It’s about the depth and meaning of what you choose to do. As women, we’re meant to set the emotional tone for our spaces—whether that’s our home, business, or relationships. And that tone isn’t one of endless hustle but of harmony, calm, and pleasure.
What Would Quality Over Quantity Look Like for You?
I invite you to reflect on your own life. Where are you prioritizing quantity over quality? Where are you still holding onto the 9-to-5 mentality, and what would it look like to let it go? What feels like clutter, physically or emotionally, that you could release to create more room for what truly matters?
As we make this shift together, I encourage you to step into your natural rhythm, embrace a quality-driven life, and notice the peace and pleasure that follows. You might find that by doing less, you actually gain more—more connection, more joy, and more fulfillment.
