Rediscovering My Love for Home: A Journey Back to Comfort and Connection

Hey Friends!

As far back as I can remember, I’ve always had a thing for home decor. While my friends were busy playing “babydoll,” I was all about “Barbie”—but not for the dolls. No, I was obsessed with fixing up that Barbie Dream House. I would take old shoeboxes, sketch little doors and windows on them, and create entire neighborhoods. Sometimes, I’d design floor plans and use random things like styrofoam from old appliance boxes to make couches and tables. My imagination turned anything into a home furnishing.

Fast forward to when my boys were little. We’d play with Legos, but while they built rocket ships or cars, guess what I was building? A house. Complete with little Lego rooms and makeshift furniture, of course. I’ve always loved changing my space. I remember being a kid and constantly rearranging my room. One time, I even took apart my canopy bed and stuffed it in the closet. When I moved upstairs to the so-called “big girl room”—which my two sisters had both occupied before heading off to college—I took the mattress and box spring off the bed and plopped them on the floor in this little window-filled cubby. I guarantee neither of my sisters had ever done that!

When I first ventured into the online space, I started as a Spiritual Life Coach. I helped women reconnect with their inner desires, teaching them to build spiritual practices that aligned with their souls instead of the religious “rules” they grew up with. As someone who was Muslim but felt called to bring candles, crystals, and herbs into my prayer routine, I totally got it. I was the Little Witchy Muslim Girl who didn’t vibe with the traditional, and I knew there were other women like me who craved something different.

Over the years, my online career has gone through more iterations than I can count. I’ve been a life coach, web designer, virtual assistant, membership host, modern-day dream catcher maker, print-on-demand product designer, digital marketing consultant, and even a home decor store owner. Yep, in 2022, I launched an online store called Mornings Like This, where I sold candles, decor, small furnishings, incense, and even a few audio activations.

I hired someone to build my Shopify store and teach me the ropes of dropshipping. It sounded perfect at the time—running a home decor store? Sign me up! But by January 2023, just two months after launching, I realized it wasn’t for me. My idea was to buy as many of the products I was selling as possible because, first of all, I love candles (I even had my own candle line once, but that’s a story for another day). And second, I wanted to truly experience what I was selling. My company only provided items made by women from around the globe (except the candles!), so I was super passionate about it.

But here’s the thing—I couldn’t afford to buy all the things. In total, I purchased a couple of candles, a tray, some tapered candle holders, a bath rug, and wooden teaspoons. Everything I bought was amazing, and I loved that my store supported women from all over. But something just didn’t sit right with me about selling products I hadn’t personally experienced.

So, I closed the shop.

And now? I’m a writer. A blogger. I’m sharing my journey of reconnecting with my soul, embracing pleasure, calm, joy, and crafting a new identity driven by desire. While I’m no longer coaching, I’ve come full circle in a way I never expected.

Since stepping into this unscripted version of life, I’ve reconnected with my love for home in a whole new way. I’ve always been a homebody—ask anyone who knows me. I find comfort in being home, and there’s something about having a space that’s perfectly “me” that brings a sense of peace I can’t quite put into words. I love everything from the scents in the air to the softness of my pillows. I adore my rose gold spoons and glass mugs—they’re small, but they add so much joy to my mornings.

It was this reconnection with my home that inspired me to change my website name from Unscripted Evolution to Mornings Like This, and to title my blog Unscripted Living. Mornings are my favorite time of day—sitting on my balcony with a cup of tea, journaling, or listening to a podcast. The domain name Mornings Like This was one I had purchased back in 2022, and it just felt right to repurpose it for this new chapter of my life. It literally touches my soul.
