Hey Friend!
January: the month where resolutions bloom, to-do lists multiply, and the collective energy screams, “Go, go, go!” Well, not this year—not for me. Instead of hitting the ground running, I hit a wall. A big, messy, overthinking-filled wall.
This January, my vibe was not “new year, new me.” It was more “new year, who dis?”
I’ve always started my Januaries with clarity, excitement, and a fierce sense of direction. But this year, clarity decided to ghost me. Depression RSVP’d to my party instead. Overthinking showed up as the uninvited plus-one, and confusion took over the DJ booth. Sound familiar?
If you’re nodding along, keep reading. We’re diving into the beauty of funks, experimenting in chaos, and why your flaws might just be your secret weapon.
The Funk: When Clarity Takes a Vacation
Picture this: it’s January 1st. The clock strikes midnight, and the world collectively puts on its “I’m productive now” hat. Vision boards are made. Gym memberships spike. And me? I was crying into a pint of ice cream, wondering why I felt so off.
Instead of chasing clarity, I let myself sit in the funk. I cried when I needed to. I overthought everything. I questioned all the things—my direction, my goals, even what snacks to buy for the week. (Overthinking Doritos is a talent, I swear.)
Here’s the thing: clarity doesn’t always show up when you want it to. Sometimes, you have to slow down and embrace the mess. For me, that meant reconnecting with my identity as a 3/5 Manifesting Generator (for my fellow Human Design fans out there) and letting myself experiment. Don’t know your Human Design? Experimentation: The Beautiful Chaos of Trying Stuff
Manifesting Generators are built for experimentation. But here’s the catch—I’ve been experimenting out loud. Imagine cooking a new recipe and live-streaming every single step, mistakes and all, to your followers. Sounds stressful, right?
Case in point: I recently migrated my email list from Beehive to Substack. I thought I’d nailed it. Spoiler: I had not. I accidentally sent a Q&A session invite to my entire email list—yes, even the people who were not in the program. (Shoutout to the confused readers who wondered why they were suddenly invited to coworking with me.)
It was messy. It was embarrassing. But here’s the lesson: even in the chaos, there’s growth. And if it happened, it was supposed to happen—because it did. (Totally leaning into this way of thinking and am excited about now, hosting Co-Working}Q/A Sessions at least once a month for everyone on my email list.-stay tuned for more on this)
Turning “Hot Mess” Into “Superpower”
Let’s talk about flaws. We hide them, label them as weaknesses, and try to polish them away. But what if your flaws were actually your superpowers?
For me, my perceived flaw is my tendency to experiment like a mad scientist. I’ve often felt “too much” or “all over the place” in my business. But when I reframed it, I realized this: my experimentation isn’t a flaw—it’s my magic.
Here’s why:
Experimentation = Growth. Every mistake is a data point. Every “oops” leads to a lesson.
Fun > Hustle. When I stopped trying to force clarity and embraced play, my business started to feel like mine again.
Authenticity Shines. Being messy and human resonates more than pretending you have it all together.
The Joy of Playing (Even When It Looks Messy)
Remember when you started your business to escape the grind of a 9-to-5? So why do we drag the same “hustle hard” mentality into our entrepreneurial lives? Newsflash: your business can be fun. Like, actually fun.
This January, I gave myself permission to play. To move platforms. To try new offers. To write messy emails and just see what happens.
Sure, some people might think I’m all over the place. But I’m not here to live for their approval—I’m here to live for mine.
Start Where You Are (Flaws and All)
Let’s get real: starting where you are isn’t always glamorous. It’s not Instagram-worthy. But it’s where the magic happens.
Want to go vegan but your fridge is full of meat? Start by cooking what you have. Want to organize your home but can’t afford Pinterest-perfect bins? Start with one shelf. One drawer. One corner.
You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t need to have “arrived.” You just need to start.
Embracing Your Messy Genius
Here’s the tea: nothing is a mistake. Every misstep, wrong turn, and detour is a part of the journey.
Your funk? It’s not a failure.
Your mess? It’s not a flaw.
Your experimenting? It’s a masterpiece in progress.
As a “no hustle, hyper hot mess” queen with a calm, chill business, I’m living proof that embracing who you are—flaws, funks, and all—leads to clarity, fulfillment, and growth.
The Big Takeaway: Play Your Way to Success
Here’s your permission slip to play, to mess up, and to try again. Let your business be fun. Let your life be fun.
And remember: you’re not behind. You’re not failing. You’re becoming.
So, go ahead. Experiment. Be a little messy. Play. The world doesn’t need your perfection—it needs your brilliance.
(Also, maybe double-check your email settings before sending invites. Learn from my mistakes.)
You’ve got this. Now, go make some magic.
